Venezuelan Ambassador Visits Midwest

Full Description:

MADISON - Thursday, September 13th, at 6:30pm on the UW-Madison campus, Mr. Bernardo Alvarez Herrera, ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United States of America, will give an extended public address followed by a question session. The exact room location of the address will be listed on the UW Memorial Union’s “Today in the Union” TITU Directory. The address is free and open to the campus community and to the general public.

The ambassador will visit Madison as part of a midwest fact-finding and friendship-building tour in which he will also stop in Detroit, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. While in Madison, in addition to his evening address, the ambassador will also meet with local elected officials, community leaders, officers of local cooperatives, and representatives of the news media.

MINNEAPOLIS - On Friday, September 14, 2007, Minneapolis will host Venezuelan Ambassador to the United States, Bernardo Alvarez Herrera. His Excellency, along with the Consul for Venezuela in Chicago, Martín Sánchez, Omar Sierra, and Marcos García, labor attaché to the Venezuelan Embassy, will spend a full day in Minneapolis.

While here, Ambassador Alvarez will meet with Congressman Keith Ellison, members of local government, grass roots community organizations, and he will give an address on Bolivarian Socialism in the 21st Century at an open event at Macalester College.

The following are a list of open, free, and public events in Minneapolis:

  • Meeting with the Venezuelan delegation to discuss questions of integration, exchange, and international solidarity, presented by Ambassador Alvarez. Representatives of community and grassroots organizations, cooperatives, etc. are invited to join this important discussion.

It is very important that you RSVP for this meeting by Thursday, September 13 at 3:00pm. This meeting is for representatives of local, grass roots organizations.

  • Meeting with Martin Sanchez (Venezuelan Consul in Chicago) and Marcos Garcia (Labor Attache for the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC) to discuss the labor movement in Venezuela and what U.S. and Venezuelan workers can learn from each other.

  • Conference with Ambassador Alvarez on "Socialism of the XXI Century". Where is Venezuela going? Come learn about the proposed changes to the Venezuelan Constitution and the proposals for participatory, and communal democracy.
