In today's U.S.A., giant corporations -- and those who own them -- make the important decisions, while “We the People” are shut out of the process. The result? Global corporations are destroying the planet, and creating a racist, patriarchal and class-oppressive society with the plunder. Even when people's movements grow powerful enough to win social, economic, and environmental reforms, corporate lawyers go to the federal courts and claim that corporations have "constitutional rights" to be free from government regulation. This has happened over and over again, with the recent Citizens United decision as only the latest example. Unelected and unaccountable corporate CEOS are not merely exercising power, they are RULING over us.

We must build a movement to overrule the courts and the corporate elites. We need a new constitution—one that acknowledges our RIGHT to create the peaceful, just and democratic world that we want and deserve. A multi-racial, gender balanced coalition of grassroots groups and national organizations are already working to do just that. We are calling for a series of constitutional amendments to make the unfulfilled promise of democracy a reality in the United States.
