RETREAT: Community Organizing for Deep Democracy

Date:

August 7, 2009

Location:

Humboldt County, Calif

Full Description:

Community Organizing for Deep Democracy
August 7-9, 2009
Three days on the stunningly beautiful Pacific Coast in Humboldt County, CA

Join us for an inspirational and engaging weekend filled with opportunities to network with organizers from around the country while learning new strategies to challenge corporate rule and build democracy in your community.

"Community Organizing for Deep Democracy" brings together a diverse set of organizers and leaders involved in systemic change for economic, environmental, and social justice at the grassroots level. Through a balanced mix of presentation, reflection, discussion, and activities, we examine together the history of corporate rule in the U.S., and then explore legal and educational strategies for resistance.

Our workshop draws on a long tradition of popular education in people's movements as we seek to organize to address today's unique challenges. Participants leave with greater networks, tools, analysis and strategies for strengthening the grassroots organizing for local democracy in their own communities.

The history of progress is written in the blood of men and women who have dared to espouse an unpopular cause, as, for instance, the black man's right to his body, or woman's right to her soul.
